1 Searching for a game on Tue Oct 11, 2011 6:08 pm

Three-Six-N9ne

I Just got here!
First topic message reminder :

Hey guys, i havent been around the gaming world in quite sometime, reason being i have a rather shitty internet connection and cannot play any online games otherwise i would still be around playing quake.

Ive been trying to find a new game to play but my search hasnt gotten me anywhere. Its been a few days and i still havent found THE game ive been looking for yet so im posting here hoping to find some help.

What im looking for is :

A single player (offline game)

A sandbox styled game with skills you need to work on (like on runescape or reddead redemption)

Gaming on Windows XP, a rather low performance laptop.

Thanks for your time, any help will be appreciated Smile

yeah well it didnt actually take me a ridiculous amount of time (40 minecraft days, no nights). I used world edit which helped hugely and also single player commands, so no rain or nights. And i only have to look at your xfire summary to see that you are no better Razz

Which one are you looking at? If you're looking at "snowjiggles," then you're looking at an account that's been up for 2 years, and the highest amount of hours recorded is for Quake(1000+)..

And if you look at "q3corpse," you'll see the most I've played in the past 7 days, is 14 hrs in Quake..

I honestly don't see any of that as being all that "bad"..especially considering Neko's hours in Flyff, and Clown's(from 2k, a person you wouldn't know, EQ..) hours in Counter-Strike: Source..

1. since i have bought minecraft, i have played more time in quake live
2. i have played for 6 days, 3 hours on quake live. http://www.quakelive.com/#!profile/statistics/EARTH_QUAKE
3. that is the equivelant of 147 hours.
4. I have owned that quake live account for 1 year, and my other for 1 also (before the current) which has 9 days 19 hours which is 235

5. therefore i have played a total of 382 hours on quake live in 2 years.
6. see (1.)

so i think i have played even less than, you, not saying what you play is bad! so no, you do not need to waste your life to make decent things in minecraft.

But I've also been playing Quake 3 for going on 3 years, and about 25% of the time was spent in spectators chatting..

Especially recently, now that the game is dying out..

25% of the time I was in Quake, I was talking to people and not actually playing the game and another bit of the time, I was sitting and watching a scrim or 2, afk while in-game, messing with commands in the console, etc..

So, even tho there's over 1000 recorded hours of playing, it's just me in the game, not necessarily me playing it..

I got what you were saying, but not how it affects my argument.

You are willing to spend 750 hours in 3 years playing quake 3. I have played less than that in minecraft. Therefore you telling me that i have too much time on my hands (which is basically saying i waste my time) is hypocritical, unless you somehow feel that killing people in sub-reality achieves more than creating models... Argument over Smile

How long have you been playing Minecraft tho? And actually, by killing people in a video game, I relieve stress, make friends, and improve hand-eye coordination..

So, to me, killing things in a video game isn't as much of a waste as making things..especially if you're given infinite resources..

Which is part of why I hate "creativity" mode in Minecraft, it bores me, I didn't have to work for anything, so there was no real satisfaction in making something..

creative mode is all about "creating". Please, just because it is how you see things, it isn't therefore THE way it is.

Creative mode allows you to focus on creating. I play minecraft for 2 reasons, to have fun with friends, and to create. Therefore i like creative mode.

And i said i played less minecraft that quake live, and i gave you an idea how much quake i played...

ok well, my opinion is that you achieve next to nothing playing quake, apart from the enjoyment. In minecraft creative, it isn't quite as enjoyable and can get a bit boring, but you actually end up with something to show for your effort and creativity.

I tried creative for about 10 minutes. Although I understand the potential of building something amazing, like data... I'd prefer to work for it.

3 hours last night being held up in the nether fortress with Killbox trying to get blaze rods and just stay alive.... Was fun lol. For me, creative mode dilutes the feeling of accomplishment. The exact same stuff can be made in survival. I prefer the challenge Smile

yes, but one day an amazing idea will pop into your head - something ambitious. It will be something too big to build in survival mode, and creative is your only bet. You saw the videos i posted of fyre uk? do you think they built their stuff in survival? and does it subtract from the accomplishment?

If you like the "game" element, thats perfectly understandable. This thing about creative for me is that it allows you to actually make something you can be proud of.
