whats to blame for the umemploymet rates? the government? the president? the companies. Not Really.

i believe the one thing that brought the unemployment rates up to a record high is the one thing anyone cant get enough of... Technology.

For Example, how many of you use the self-checkout in a super market and not go to a register.( i personally dont use the self-checkout.. always ends up in problems.) As more and more people get into self-checkouts.. same goes for flight tickets, gas stations, etc., more people lose their jobs. Your opinions?

To me, it's a natural change. It has to happen if we want to keep this lifestyle up; however, it does not need to mean that there has to be more unemployment: with the reduction of unskilled labor opportunity there necessarily has to be an increase in skilled labor (think: as we have better, more sophisticated machines, we need better, more highly skilled technicians and developers). I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing.

However, the lost of jobs due to bad economy, well, there's just no upside to that and THEN we have a problem.

It really is the government's fault though. Frivolous spending and poor management of the country led to the deconstruction of our economy. It does mostly happen to be affecting the every-day working man, but technology isn't really playing a big role. We've had machines replacing humans for centuries, or animals replacing humans, and we've managed to do just fine. It actuality, it's probably all the fat people out there who are too lazy to work. I've seen so many stories on the news of people who just try to collect disability or welfare checks because they're "too obese" and "can't change their lifestyle". I mean, really? The shitty economy has been going on for a couple years now and I still managed to get a job at a mediocre restaurant. Nothing is preventing people from getting jobs, especially minimum-wage jobs, which is better than having no income at all.

Unemployment.

Technology does take away jobs but really it isn't just one thing. I only use the self check out if I have a few items other than that in my opinion register is a lot faster unless you have a big line or an old lady with coupons. I believe the government has a lot to do with unemployment. While they are trying to get us out of this debt it seems like all they are doing is throwing us in the hole even more. We have a crap president that in my opinion and from what I can see hasn't done jack shit to help the US.

@Tool I have to completely agree with you. Their are tons of wrong people out there today that collect disability because they can't get up off their fucking ass and do something. One of my dad's cousins hurt himself at work and he is perfectly fine now but he claims he has to much pain to work and collects disability. We all hate him because of that. The US didn't become what it has if it was not for hardworking citizens of this country. I also am going to state that it is a bit more difficult to get a job at a time like this. I have applied to at least 100 places and only got replies from a few. Just ask Jared when he was living in Red Bluff he was trying to find a job there and as a result he had to move because he couldn't get one.

agreed tool. thats one of the reasons why probably none of us will probably have Social Scecruity when most of us reach retirement age. For me it wasnt really hard to find a job here in Long island, i get paid a decent amount. People who are able to work SHOULD work.

This is never going to happen. In all honesty who says hey I want to go to work and sit around doing some BS job and get paid shit money?

These people that are "disabled" use it as an excuse to get out of working with pay. I am pretty sure it depends on what area you are in when it comes down to getting jobs.

The country was built on working together, and creating things.. China has long ago taken over that role for the U.S. The BIGGEST reason for our economies downfall, hell, the world's economy downfall... Is oil. The world DEPENDS on it for everything! Plastic is oil based, we still rely on it for transportation, heat, etc... Until we find a cheap, reliable, easy to manufacture source of fuel, OR find enough oil that it drives the price down to a reasonable amount... The world will be in a shit hole.

Well there was a guy that invented a way to run car on water and some other product but from what I heard the dealerships bought it the formula from him and such and got rid of it. Not 100% how true that is but it is believe able. You know the car dealerships want us to pay for gas.

You said that until oil prices go down we are screwed. I am telling you some man found an alternative to oil and the car dealerships took it from him.

There's MANY alternative fuels... The problem is finding one that lasts long and is easy to produce.

yes but if we do happen to find alternate fuel.. there will be domino effect. Dependence on oil will drop.. thats great to see.. but Oil companies will file for bankruptcy...stations go down.. peopl lose jobs.. the economy goes down even furthur due to big oil companies..(Exxon, Hess, Sunaco) closing down and unemployment rates soar.

Not exactly. Who said everyone will abandon oil? Also we don't just run oil in cars.

There are people that can careless about hybrid because they want power. Oil gives you better HP in a car. Also who said the alternative to fuel wont need people to make it and sell it?

i pesonally dream that all the gas companies... stop producing oil... and put their money on electrical projects for electric cars.. such as charging stations.

i know that oil isnt only used on vehicles. Almost every transportation vehicle uses oil. i dont know how long our ozone can take before another hole opens.

Cannot compare cellphones and home phone to alt fuels and fuel at this stage. Cellphones had a clear advantage over home phones to both the consumer and companies. Alt fuels in its current stages however... Hassle for the consumer and not so good for the companies (at the moment).

We require more minerals, vespene gas for the R&D from the government as well as supply depots for the science peoples. coughStealtechnologyfromtheprotosscough

Water engine? Na doubt the story. It would take teams of people from different backgrounds to do something revolutionary like this.

As for the original topic, i think USA is just having a tad bit problem dealing with change. Not just the government, but the workers and just people in general. I mean with a free market, all those people getting no jobs because they been replaced by technology and/or overseas workers cant be helped, its not really anyone's fault. The people who worked those jobs, are typically not ones you'd hire for for a good paying, hot hiring technology jobs, and yet its those jobs that are doing good at the moment.

The way I see things, the only thing that you can depend on in your life is yourself. Blame the economy, blame the government, blame the people, but at the end of the day, the ones that work hard, no matter what kind of life hes in right now, will always succeed. *Withholding urge to add in emoticons*
