First topic message reminder :

It is important to me and other Americans to find out what other countries are teaching in their schools regarding the USA. Do they depict us as an evil empire? A powerhouse? What...

This is more aimed towards our non-American forum members... but all replies are welcomed.

I know the USA invested money into the Weimar Republic. Because it was one of the factors(when coupled with the wall street crash) which helped Hitler be offered the chancellorship, but I’m not sure about Britain.

Also, another point which is currently bringing out anti American feeling is the extradite of Gary McKinnon. Since most people believe he should go though our court system instead of the American one.

The US has invested money/time/training to every single country we have ever fought... one way or another.

To be honest, what I keep reading is that the US is seen as an arrogant, pompous, mediocre, self indulgent, and full of BS country. To an extent, I have to agree.

You have to understand it's really hard to see that the same way from inside the borders, but I do believe in a way it's a correct assumption.

What is worse to me is that we have so much internal problems in this country being poverty. drugs, corruption, disease, and many many other things.... but we feel the "need" to lend help to other countries.......

We cant even take care of ourselves.

To me, America is seen as (And i'll try not to stereotype.) But American's are often seen as arrogant, and prejudiced country. Any other country just isn't good enough. To be honest, that's why i think they were targeted in 9/11.

Not to turn this into a gaming forum, but i play a little bit of xbox. And the way Americans speak is different to every other country that i play people from. Saying stuff like;

"Are you jealous that your country isn't as good as ours?"
or
"Just because you're a foreigner."
or
"Are your kangaroos clogging up your internet connection to make you lag?"

I know quote 2 is correct, we are foreign to you guys. Burt a lot of childish Americans will say quote 1 and 2 on regular occasions.

I want to bring this topic back now that a lot in has changed. New president, enonomic hardships, different war strategies. Anyone else that hasn't posted that are from other countries aside of the USA.... please post your opinions or what you have been taught in school about the US. I can tell you what I was taught about various countries as well for those that post.

Mart, this would be a good place for you to say what you were taught, being you are from a "distant land".

Any other reiterations or new insights by others that have posted before are also appreciated.

I think it is very important and some times humbling for the USA citizens to see or hear what other countries are saying.

While i was in Greece "America" is where you wanted to go. America is where every one went for opportunities People in Greece love people from America when i went back this summer to visit my family I met a lot of Greek kids (plus my cousins) who wouldn't stop asking questions about America they told me that they learned in school if you go to America you will be rich and have a wonderful life. Now I went to school in Greece only till second grade and I just learned how to count to 10 in English and a few greetings and the names of animals.

We actually had a lot of subjects where they taught us about the U.S here in Canada. Politics, Economics, History (mostly related World Wars and exploration), Geography, even Media and a few more I can't remember. We have a class in high school named American History for those who want to learn more about the U.S. We had small discussions about Obama/ McCain, Palin (her being the topic most of the time). We had the Inauguration of Barack Obama live in our library on big screen when it happened. Students were allowed to go and watch it if they wished as it was a "quiet week" prior to exams. We're not closed off from the U.S.

Obviously teachers don't teach us to hate our neighbours (U.S). We as human beings tend to judge everyone based on preconceptions and the actions of 1 person alone.

Personally, I don't like where the U.S has been going since 9/11. What Bin Laden did was horrible but by going to Afghanistan and Iraq and killing millions of innocent people didn't really set a positive image for the U.S. It's sad when you read sites like fmylife.com and see people complaining about spilling coffee on their brand new pants and then read the news and see that there are people in Afghanistan and Iraq that are suffering, being paralyzed and disabled, becoming orphans, dying, etc, just because of this pathetic "war" U.S has caused much more problems in the middle eastern and even in their own nation by going there. Why isn't U.S invading North Korea or Iran? They continuously disobey what U.N says and even threaten U.S. They are obviously corrupt. The reason why U.S is scared of these 2 nations is because they have the ability to fight back.

What else is wrong with the image of U.S? There are several videos of torture and killings of innocent civilians by American soldiers. Torture of prisoners, the issue of stupid protesters at the "holy" Ground Zero crying about a community center being built. They're not only protesting about the community center being built but are also Anti-Muslim. This shows how much freedom one in U.S really has. It's funny how this effected so many Americans yet the porn shops, alcohol stores, strip clubs did not have any effect. The center wasn't even near Ground Zero.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwaNRWMN-F4

The U.S is warning other nations to stop building nuclear weapons while they are the only ones who have ever used one. Hypocritical much?

I may sound rude but the education system in the U.S is horrible. Some people are so ignorant and stupid there that they have no idea where Canada is. They refuse to recognize Canadian culture or any other culture and tend to have the "I'm better than you because I'm an American" attitude. America use to be a great nation but that's slowly coming to an end.

Not everything in Canada is perfect. I hate Harper (Canadian Prime Minister for those who don't know him). Harper has been licking the U.S' ass since he got elected. Majority of Canadians do not support the war but he does. He also backed up Saudi Arabia recently which was bullshit. His opinion and actions does not count for all Canadians just as I'd like to think that not everyone in the U.S supports the actions of U.S. I don't hate Americans, in fact, I have a aunt and uncle there. I just hate the decisions that America makes as a nation.

Sorry about the long essay :p. This is not the list of things U.S has done wrong but a list of things brings up discussions and debates here in Canada.

i did some skimming thru this topic, and i saw a couple posts that mentioned wanting to live in another country for w/e reason

i was born and raised in the same town, therefore same country, but i honestly don't have a reason to leave this country to go live in another, if i did, i'd go to Germany for the cars, the Autobahn, and the Nurburgring race track

and i agree completely with tool, almost all hate people have for a country is based off of stereotypes that people come up with from the media and history itself

i figured i'd throw in my 2 cents, seems i'm left with....72

Here, in New Zealand, we don't really care/teach about America. We're pretty laid back and like to just watch everyone else. xDxD

We have enough cultures here to worry about other countries! We can watch them in our own back yard. Razz
